ROSEMEAD BOULEVARD RECONSTRUCTION AND BEAUTIFICATION EFFORT
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works is currently reconstructing Rosemead Boulevard from Pasadena to Temple City.
The road project is being done in six phases starting from Foothill Boulevard and heading south to the border of Temple City. The landscaping project will be done in two phases: Foothill Boulevard to Huntington Drive and Huntington Drive to the border of Temple City. The road project is substantially complete, with minor work remaining in Phase 2 (Colorado Blvd to Huntington Blvd). Landscaping in Phases 1 and 2 is well under way.
On this site, you will find construction schedules, traffic control information, photographs of the construction progress, and an artist's rendition of how the completed work is expected to look.
The benefits of this project include constructing new roadway pavement from Foothill Boulevard south to Temple City using rubberized asphalt mix. This will eliminate potholes and big cracks and give a much smoother drive. Vehicles driving on rubberized asphalt concrete also generate less noise than if they were driving on a traditional asphalt concrete surface. Also, the view along Rosemead Boulevard has been improved by relocating the old overhead utility lines underground and out of sight. The median curbs will remain for safety, but we will replace the concrete between the curbs with trees, plants, and an irrigation system.
The road project also includes new sidewalks and ramps to accommodate wheelchairs and make walking more pleasant. In some of the areas currently covered in concrete, we will collect rain water and let it soak into the ground to recharge the water table. Plants in these areas, known as bioswales, will filter the water.
As is typical of any major construction project, some inconveniences to the public will be unavoidable, but we will try to minimize them as best we can.
