ROSEMEAD BOULEVARD RECONSTRUCTION AND BEAUTIFICATION EFFORT
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works has completed reconstructing Rosemead Boulevard from Pasadena to Temple City.
The road project was constructed in six phases, starting from Foothill Boulevard and heading south to the border of Temple City. The landscaping project was constructed in two phases. Phase 1 covered Colorado Boulevard to Huntington Drive. Phase 2 covered Huntington Drive to the border of Temple City .
The benefits of this project include new roadway pavement from Foothill Boulevard south to Temple City, using rubberized asphalt mix. This will eliminate potholes and big cracks and give a much smoother drive. Vehicles driving on rubberized asphalt concrete also generate less noise than would otherwise be generated driving on traditional asphalt concrete. Also, the view along Rosemead Boulevard has been improved by relocating the old overhead utility lines under ground and out of sight. The most notable benefit is the beautification of Rosemead Boulevard through landscaping of the median islands and parkway with trees and plants and installation of an irrigation system.
Other features of the project include new sidewalks to make walking more pleasant and curb ramps for wheelchair access. At some locations, we constructed curb openings to collect rain water, allowing it to soak into the ground and recharge the water table. These planted areas are known as bioswales and will filter the water.
