Cart Usage

Using the appropriate cart for your discards conserves landfill space and preserves our environmental resources. We encourage you to do your part by using the right cart!

For a list of items designated for each of the carts, see Cart Items

Set out
  • Carts should be set out on the night before collection, or prior to 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
  • Place carts not less than 2-feet apart and away from obstructions to allow for easier collection.
  • Carts shall not be set out before 5:00 p.m. on the day before collection, and left out after 8:00 p.m. on the day of collection (Los Angeles County Code 20.72.110)
Automated Collection

As part of the automated three-cart collection system, each residential dwelling unit receives three carts designated for refuse, recyclables, and green waste. These carts are specifically designed to be grasped by the truck's mechanical arm to be properly emptied. The automated system contributes to a more attractive neighborhood by providing uniform carts. Separately collecting refuse from the recyclables and green waste also yields a higher recycling rate, by minimizing contamination, thereby preserving our landfill capacities in compliance with the State's recycling mandates.
