The County offers an array of programs designed to assist schools located in the Los Angeles County unincorporated areas in achieving greater sustainability through recycling. Click on the links below to learn more about programs that are available to your school.
School Garden Program
Teach kids how to preserve the environment and conserve natural resources by starting a garden at your child's school with the County's help. We provide free raised beds, plants, interactive worm composting demonstrations, tools, and seeds. School gardens help children grow. The gardens are an outside classroom where skills in math, science, art, health, physical education, and social studies come together for a fun learning experience.
Generation Earth
Generation Earth is an environmental education program of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works presented by TreePeople. It provides development training and personalized support to secondary school teachers and students in Los Angeles County. Our approach is to encourage and assist those who want to make a difference in their local environment through campus and community eco-projects.
The Environmental Defenders
Educate and empower your school through the County's Environmental Defenders, whose goal is to educate and empower elementary school kids in Los Angeles County to protect their environment. They offer a free school assembly and other programs to help your school with a number of environmental issues.
County Surplus Equipment Redistribution
From time to time, the County has surplus property available for sale, auctions, and donations to the public. This property consists of County personal property, unclaimed or abandoned personal property and valuables.
Los Angeles County Food Redistribution Initiative (LACFRI)
LACFRI is a county project that aims to provide resources to the public about safe methods to prevent, donate and recycle excess food, as well as support policies that divert food from landfills. Participants include several county departments, businesses, community members, and nonprofit organizations.
